What it is
A total hip replacement removes the damaged ball and socket of the hip joint and replaces them with artificial parts. It is most often done for severe arthritis or some hip fractures, to relieve pain and improve movement.
What the price covers
The hospital price usually covers the operating room, implants and hospital stay. The surgeon's fee, anesthesia, physical therapy after discharge and follow-up imaging are often billed separately, unless a bundled package is offered.
