How the list is made
- We read every line of each hospital's current machine-readable file. A hospital is listed when no line in any of its current files carries a discounted cash price, and no payer named as self-pay gives a dollar rate either.
- Files we could not read in full, and files whose prices are clearly not prices (item numbers in the price column), are not counted here.
- A missing cash price is not proof that a hospital refuses cash discounts: many give one on request. It means a patient cannot find it in what the hospital publishes. To pay out of pocket, ask for a written Good Faith Estimate.
