Cash or insurance?
At 31 of 31 hospitals that publish insurer rates for this code here, the cash price is below the highest rate a health plan has negotiated, and at none is it below every plan's rate. If you have insurance but have not met your deductible, you usually pay your plan's negotiated rate, which falls somewhere in the "Insurers pay" column. Paying cash can cost less, but a cash payment usually does not count toward your deductible. Ask the hospital for both numbers before you book.
What it is
A gastric band (Lap-Band) is an inflatable ring placed around the top of the stomach through small cuts, creating a small pouch so that a person feels full sooner. It is a weight-loss operation that is now done far less often than the sleeve or bypass.
What the price covers
The facility price usually covers the operating room and recovery and may not include the hospital stay. The surgeon, anesthesia, pre-surgery tests and follow-up visits are usually billed separately. Band adjustments (fills) after surgery are separate visits.
