What it is
A prostate biopsy uses a needle to take small tissue samples from the prostate, usually guided by ultrasound through the rectum or the skin between the scrotum and anus. It is used to check for prostate cancer, often after a high PSA or abnormal exam.

The price covers the biopsy procedure. Ultrasound or MRI guidance, the pathologist's exam of each sample, and sedation are usually billed separately.
