Cash or insurance?
At 20 of 20 hospitals that publish insurer rates for this code here, the cash price is below the highest rate a health plan has negotiated, and at 9 it is below every plan's rate. If you have insurance but have not met your deductible, you usually pay your plan's negotiated rate, which falls somewhere in the "Insurers pay" column. Paying cash can cost less, but a cash payment usually does not count toward your deductible. Ask the hospital for both numbers before you book.
What it is
This blood test, usually called RPR or VDRL, looks for antibodies the body makes in response to syphilis infection. It is used for screening, including during pregnancy, and gives a reactive or non-reactive result.
What the price covers
The price usually covers the screening test only. The blood draw is often billed separately, and a reactive result leads to a titer (86593) and a confirmation test (86780) with their own charges.
